I am fascinated by the places which my ancestors were born in or lived in. On this page, I have gathered together a number of pictures of the North-East of England which show places which they would have known. If you are not from England or have lost touch with it, you may find these of interest. I must say, though, that the places are very different now from those shown in the old pictures! Well, most of them anyway... |
Newcastle, Northumberland, England. |
Sunderland, County Durham |
Some of the TAYLOR family would have walked around here. |
The WELLBURN and KLINGELE families lived here and would have known it like this. The ROWNTREEs moved here in the 1870s and they too would have walked these streets and seen these sights. |
Newcastle was the nearest city for the TAYLORs and the older BLENKINSOP family members. |
Longbenton, Northumberland. These pictures are from my cousin, Clive Blenkinsop - thanks, Clive! |
18th century East Benton Farm. The Blenkinsops would probably have known this and passed by it. |
1700s Gravestone (not Blenkinsop) from the churchyard at Longbenton. |
